The Federal election isn’t far away. It must be held by 17 May (assuming a simultaneous House of Representatives and half-Senate election) – but it could be much earlier! KCCA has been working with Lighter Footprints, ACF and other allies on the Kooyong Votes Climate campaign for some time.
Our campaign aims to:
- make climate action a key issue deciding the election outcome; and
- ensure voters have reliable and succinct information about candidates’ climate policies and commitments.

We will be officially launching the campaign at 3:00 pm on Sunday 16 February at the Camberwell Central Bowls Club (14 Bowen Street Camberwell). Please come along to find out more details about the campaign and how you can get involved. After the information and volunteering session, there will be a BBQ (vegetarians catered for) and a chance for good conversation – and perhaps a game of bowls, pool or ping pong. Drinks are at bar prices. Children are most welcome! Click below for more details and to RSVP.
The campaign will involve:
- Developing a non-partisan climate scorecard which assesses the climate policies the candidates for Kooyong and the Senate
- Letterboxing the scorecard and other election material
- Promoting the scorecard and the climate message on social media
- A Kooyong candidates’ forum (run by Lighter Footprints), which will give voters the chance to hear from candidates and put questions to them directly
- Street stalls at community events, street conversations and petitioning
- Printing and distributing election fence signs
- Handing out scorecards at pre-polling and at all voting booths on election day
- Assisting climate groups in surrounding electorates (especially with scorecard development).
